The insanely popular reality show, the Bachelor is hitting the air again with its eleventh season. Attractive, single women fight it out to win the ‘man of their dreams’ in this program about finding ‘true’ love. In episode four it is no surprise that the women are getting a bit catty in their attempts to attain the final prize. These women bicker among themselves, and lash out with cruel commentary against one another behind their backs. In addition to the banter that goes on between the women, this group of hot, young singles demonstrate that they are willing to stop at nothing to win Brad’s heart, or possibly to attain the publicity and fame they have always wanted. They demonstrate this by complying with the shows demand that they get on the floor like dogs and show Brad how they can beg for a rose. They are either really hot for this guy they have just met, or they have an insatiable thirst for fame. The women include Jenni, a Phoenix Suns Dancer, Kristy, an Acupuncturist, Bettina, a realtor, Hillary, a registered nurse, Jade, a saleswomen, Sheena, who is in Internet Marketing, Stephy, McCarten, an account manager and Deanna, also a realtor. The sexy, self-made, Texan, Brad Womack may only find the bachelorette of his dreams if these bloodthirsty women don’t kill each other in their quest to win him over. Drama is inevitable when you put a group of hot women together vying for the attention of one man.
In this episode, Brad, who is dubbed the ‘McSteamy’ of the Bachelor makes it clear that he is more than interested in the dark, haired, light eyed Jenni. She is his chose for the romantic nocturnal flight over LA. With the arrival of the helicopter, the other girls work themselves up into a frenzy of jealous. Jenni, who appears sweet but may have ambiguous intentions, flaunts her success with Brad by giving him a huge hug in front of the envious onlookers. Stephy and Hillary can’t stand to watch the chemistry between their competitor and Brad. Meanwhile, as the girls brood at home Jenni and Brad have an obviously amazing night, as it ends with a kiss and a rose. It is appears that Jenni is going to be a top contender in this competition.
The second date is a group one involving Sheena, McCarten, Hillary, Bettina, Kristy and Stephy. The group setting makes it more difficult for the women to get the attention they desire and tensions are high. They are taken to a theater where they must demonstrate their acting skills and show Brad that they know how to laugh. Kristy gets emotional, feeling that she is out of her element and Stephy threatens to slap her if Brad gives her the rose out of pity. It’s a little pathetic that Stephy threatens violence on someone because they might bet her out of a rose. She obviously has the maturity of a sixteen year old girl. Bettina, who appears to be a bit of a fake, wins his affection and the rose by shouting out “I love Brad!” The real estate agent may have a chance to promote her services after all, if she wins the heart of the Bachelor and possible America in turn. Jade and DeAnna, who are not fond of one another are forced into a double date with Brad. Jade, although insecure about her lack of verbal skills finds out that Brad feels she is beautiful and intriguing. DeAnna blabs throughout the whole date.
After more than a few bickering sessions, a couple kisses and a helicopter ride this episode ends with two girls being forced to depart. McCarten and Stephy do not receive a rose and must go home. Stephy’s aggressive nature obviously didn’t win her any points. Maybe next time she should be more open with her feelings if she is going to participate in a reality show which involves discovering that you want to marry a man you have just met with in a matter of weeks. Stephy refuses to show her emotions, even after she is sent home and she subsequently hides her face from the camera. Sounds like she is a bit of a coward, or she just doesn’t care about Brad like the others claim they do. McCarten, however has to hold back the tears. She, like many women on the Bachelor in the past has no problem showing her dismay at losing the ‘love of her life’.
